Pet Acupuncture in Branford

Dedicated to Helping Your Pet Heal

Integrating acupuncture into our practice allows us to provide an additional layer of pain relief and healing to benefit our patients. Our in-house acupuncturist at Mill Pond Veterinary Hospital is a credentialed member of the American Academy of Veterinary Acupuncture. Using this modality specialty in conjunction with Western medicine has brought our clients’ pets relief from conditions such as osteoarthritis, soft tissue injuries, intervertebral disc disease, cystitis, seizures, and more.

How Acupuncture Works

The process of acupuncture has been used in China for over 2,000 years and subscribes to the belief that our body has acupuncture points arranged in an orderly network of interconnecting meridians located throughout the body. When we stimulate these points, we optimize the energy flow or Qi (chee) to create a state of wellness. This age-old treatment paradigm has been working well in veterinary medicine.

Your pet might benefit from veterinary acupuncture if they:

  • Suffer from arthritis, nerve injury, or other musculoskeletal problems
  • Experience respiratory problems, such as feline asthma or sinusitis
  • Have skin problems, such as granulomas
  • Experience gastrointestinal problems, such as diarrhea or pancreatic disease

Compared with the typical vaccine or medication injections, acupuncture is virtually painless for small animals. Your pet may feel a slight discomfort when the needles are inserted, but once inserted, the needles will not hurt. Your pet will start to relax and may feel sleepy during the treatment. When administered by a certified and trained veterinarian, acupuncture is a safe and effective treatment.
