Vaccines can lessen, or prevent, many diseases your pet may contract by creating an immunity to the disease. Vaccination is extremely important as it protects pets from highly contagious diseases they can get though simple contact with other dogs, cats or animals, especially in high traffic areas such as parks, wooded areas, beaches and grooming facilities. These diseases can be expensive to treat, and in some cases, fatal. It is also possible that they may be zoonotic, posing a threat to you and your family as it can be spread from pets to people.
There are some patients that are not able to tolerate vaccinations due to immune-mediated diseases, pre-existing infections, such as FIV infection, or severe allergy to the vaccination. For these patients, we offer vaccination titers. Titers use a sample of the patient’s blood and analyzes the level of antibody present, determining if your pet is protected. A titer can help reduce some of the potential risk factors for pets that can’t be vaccinated. An adequate titer does not guarantee protection and our veterinarians will help determine the best way possible to keep your pet heathy. On a yearly basis, we will discuss with you your pet’s life style and risk factors.
